Achieve A Visual Memory Program - Levels I, II, III, IV, V, VI By Achieve Publications Develops visual recall Helps students become better readers and spellers Solves the "No Child Left Behind" need for expanding student's sequential memory for words. This highly effective teaching is designed to teach visual sequential memory of words, to develop a solid sight vocabulary and to recall the appearance of words for spelling. It is an excellent program to help all children to expand their ability to retain terms for basic subjects such as history and science. Achieve is easy to administer in 10-15 minute sessions. Statistical results of this program have been outstanding with students improving 60% in their visual recall letter span after completing just the first four levels. Levels I-IV increase visual memory from a 3 to a 13 letter span. Levels V & VI increase the span to a 16 letter level. Achieve was designed for developmental and/or remedial use. Researchers have estimated that eighty (80) percent of all learning takes place through the eye (Ferrald & Schamber 1971) with visual memory existing as a crucial aspect of learning. Students who have not developed visual memory skills frequently experience difficulty in remembering or recognizing words previously taught and visualizing the appearance of words for reading, writing and spelling. As a result these students fail to develop a good sight vocabulary, and frequently experience serious writing and spelling difficulties. Achieve was designed to develop visual memory by teaching students how to note the details of words, view words in terms of common word parts or syllables, and then recall what they have seen. Scientists have revealed that in our short-term memory we can hold approximately six units of information. They have also concluded that the more related to each other the bits of information are, the more likely that they are to be retained as a single unit of information (Hittleman 1979). For example, the letters y a p p h will be retained as five separate units of information while the rearrangement of these letters into meaningful units, or syllables happy will cause them to be retained as two related units making up a meaningful whole. ACHIEVE: A Visual Memory Program offers a systematic approach for the vision training of memory that has long been sought after by concerned classroom, reading and special education teachers as well as home schooling parents everywhere. NOTE: Achieve: A Visual Memory Program levels I& II (Grades 1-3) and levels III & IV (Grades 4-6) can now be purchased in two volume sets. Levels I & II are ideal for beginning readers and make an outstanding addition to a Montessori school program. LEVELS I-IV
NOTE: An expanded program of Achieve: A Visual Memory Program
Levels V & VI is now available. These two levels expand the visual memory skills
of students developmentally at a 7th and 8th grade level. Remedially they are
suitable for grade 7-adult and offer an excellent teaching tool for redeveloping
the visual memory of stroke patients.
Levels I-II (2 volume set) Grades 1-3
Levels III-IV (2 volume set) Grades 4-6
Levels I-IV (4 volume set) Grades 1-6
Levels V-VI (2 volume set) Grades 7-8

Early SAT Preparation: Science Edition By Dr. Joseph Lafferty & Dr. Charles Paslay Early SAT* Preparation for 7th, 8th, and 9th Grade. The Early SAT Preparation Books are intended for students who want a unique and early preparation for taking the SAT. Students will enjoy the challenging science or sports questions that are structured in the same format as the verbal section of the SAT. Therefore, students will be practicing a version of the test which resembles the verbal section of the SAT. It has been found that exposure to, and practice with similar SAT test items is the most productive and efficient way to prepare for the most important test a student will take in high school. Three parts are included in the verbal section of the current SAT: analogies, sentence completions and reading comprehension. Likewise, the three verbal segments of the books are written in a SCIENCE FORMAT or SPORTS FORMAT. More importantly, these books have comprehensive answer keys that are clearly explained and provide clues and tips for answering questions that appear on most standardized tests. For example, these books explain how words such as "although" and "conversely" act as transition words which clue-in the reader toward a particular answer. We know that many students have little or no familiarity with the SAT until a month or two before they take the test in 10th or 11th grade. WHY WAIT? These books are structured so that students will receive an early introduction to the test format. In addition, these editions are fun and valuable tools that capture students' interest and helps them easily learn new concepts. To keep the fun and enthusiasm at a high level, it is recommended that students work in short sessions by doing one segment at a time. Moreover, pupils should utilize the answer keys and explanations as a means of understanding the relationships for long-term learning and improvement. Furthermore, we believe students will enjoy challenging mom, dad, granddad, grandma and their friends with a number of science or sports questions in these entertaining books. The SCIENCE EDITION comprises five sections covering earth science, life science, physical science, and an introduction to chemistry and physics. We have included definitions of SAT words used on the high-school test, which will enhance students' learning. Also included are vocabulary-building tips. As an illustration, the word inhale contains the prefix in, which means in or into and is seen in numerous words like: invade, incur, include, and inflame. Learning one key prefix transfers to multiple words and expands students' knowledge tremendously. The SPORTS EDITION comprises five sections covering the sports of baseball/softball, basketball, tennis, football, and provides a variety of questions on other sports. We have included definitions and examples of similes, metaphors, idioms, and synonyms which will enhance students' learning. Also included are the etymologies (origins) of words. * SAT is a registered trademark of the College Entrance Examination Board which is not affiliated with these books. **NOTE - One of the strategies of successful test-takers is developing the ability to answer questions in categories where students have little knowledge. Through context clues, test-taking strategies (e.g. the process of elimination), and key words, students should be able to answer the questions with a higher probability of success. In other words, just because pupils are not familiar with all the sciences or sports does not mean they can't attempt to answer the questions. This is very important since in many tests, including SATs, there will be paragraphs and questions on topics that students have never seen.

The Unprocessed Child The Unprocessed Child is a work of nonfiction about a child raised with no coercion and no curriculum. Laurie Chancey spent her childhood immersing herself in topics of her own choosing. She was never forced to learn something simply because tradition and/or society said it was necessary. No one was looking over her shoulder to make sure she was learning the "proper" subjects.
Having never seen a textbook or taken a test, never used workbooks or any type of teaching techniques, Laurie scored in the top 10% of the state of Louisiana on her college entrance exam. She enrolled in college when she was eighteen, and graduated summa cum laude three and a half years later. Laurie is a bright adult, but her IQ is not why she did so well. She spent her life learning to learn and it’s something that now comes easily to her. |

Vocabutoons Vocabulary Cartoons By Sam, Max and Brian Burchers, New Monic Books Learn hundreds of new words over a weekend! The "Vocabutoons" in this book provide a revolutionary new approach to acquiring vocabulary skills. Vocabutoons work on the same mnemonic principles as those used by memory experts who appear on TV shows and quickly memorize the names of the entire audience. But unlike memory experts who must create mnemonic devices in their heads, vocabutoons do all the mnemonic work for you in the form of rhymes and humorous cartoons. Tested in many southwest Florida Junior and Senior High schools, Vocabutoon students eared up to three times more "A's" than students with traditional vocabulary study books. Vocabutoon words are those commonly found in SAT tests. Recommended for SAT test prep, Special Education students, English as a Second Language, Adult Education, and Home Study.
