Digging A Well To Heaven
By Jadeine N. Shives
When Jadeine Shives learned of the Maha Kumbha Mela, India’s most sacred
spiritual festival in centuries, there was no question in her mind that she
would be there. No obstacle on this earth was big enough to keep her away.
Jadeine started out taking the trip for herself. She ended up taking us with
her, every step of the way. In the most available, intimate, inclusive manner
possible, she opened her heart and her mind and let us walk in.
Digging a Well to Heaven sweeps us along on Jadeine’s non-stop adventures of
wonder and self-discovery. It shares the challenges of freezing nights and
scorching days, and a raging fever that raised real concern for her very
survival. It leads us through the sublime experiences conversing with saints and
kneeling before ancient holy shrines.
All of this is reward enough in itself. Yet the power of this chronicle takes us
deeper. We are guided from the guttural rumblings of earthquakes in the jungle
to spiritual awakenings so expansive they are almost beyond what the human heart
can hold. We see the seemingly steady stream of miracles through the wonder of
Jadeine’s own eyes, and receive an almost mystical transmission direct from her
heart.
We start at home, in Florida, and join her as the whole experience transforms
from mere dreams to an incredible reality, terrifying nightmares to fulfilled
wishes. Walking the dusty path beside the sacred Ganges River, we join Jadeine
as she enters the space of her heart and battles every inner demon she
encounters. Her pilgrimage of tears and triumph becomes our own.
The India adventure itself, with miracles and maladies, is non-stop revelation.
We find ourselves with her when the intensity of the sights, sounds and humanity
of this far off land awakened in her the calling to bring water to the thirsty
lips of the Indian people. Finally, we come full circle back home where the real
work begins.
If India is tugging at your heart, Digging a Well to Heaven will take you there
and beyond.
